Used Cars

Buying a used car can be a bit of a time consuming process but it is a decision that should not be rushed into.

My 16 year old is about to get her learners permit so we have started the process at looking into the best used car for her.

There are so many things to think about before buying a used car:

  • set your budget and don't forget to include registration, insurance, stamp duty and transfer fees.
  • do your research. Have a look at what's out there and get an idea on current market prices of used cars.
  • where to look - go window shopping at used car dealers, read expert reviews and have a look at the many used car guides available. Best guides in Aust - Red book, cars guide, car sales and drive. Best guides in US - Kelley blue book and Nada blue book.
  • where to buy - buying a used car privately can be cheaper but there is no warranty and no legal obligations to the seller should things go sour. Buying a used car through a used car dealer may cost a little more but you get a warranty, you get a cooling off period and you may be able to trade-in. Used car auctions can be cheaper but be sure to ask about auction fees and there is no warranty.
They say you should never trust a "used car dealer". DON'T!!!

Have your budget, do your research and when you are ready head out there with someone, preferably someone who knows a bit about cars.

Happy Used Car Shopping.
