MasterChef Australia
MasterChef Australia
The television cooking game show MasterChef started in 1990 on BBC. The show has now expanded to 27 countries but the same MasterChef logo is used around the world.
MasterChef Australia begins with a large number of contestants who audition by presenting a dish to the three judges in hope of winning a spot in the 50 semi-final places. Semi-finalists then compete in several challenges and eliminations until there are 24 finalists.
These 24 finalists then progress to individual and team challenges. Weekly eliminations are carried out until the last Chef standing is then deemed the winning MasterChef.
MasterChef Australia is aired six nights a week from Sunday to Friday with a different format to the show each night.
Sunday night is Challenge night, Monday is the Pressure Test, Tuesday is the Immunity Challenge night, Wednesday is Team Challenge night, Thursday is Elimination night and Friday is MasterClass, my favourite night. No tests, no pressure, just sit back, enjoy and learn.
The first season of MasterChef Australia began in 2009. The winner was an I.T office manager Julie Goodwin. 2010 winner was a lawyer Adam Liaw, and in 2011 the winner was Kate Bracks.
On average two million Australians have tuned into MasterChef Australia six nights a week and another four million watch from time to time. 5.74 million viewers watched the season finale last year.
The success of the series has led to an increase in demand in various industries from cooking schools, kitchenware retailers, upmarket restaurants, supermarkets and speciality food retailers.
MasterChef Australia won the 2010 Logie Award for the Most Popular Reality Program and Matt Preston won the Graham Kennedy award for Most Outstanding New Talent.
There are several MasterChef publications available as well as the MasterChef website where you can get the latest news as well as all the fantastic recipes.
The Official MasterChef Cookbook Volume 1 has recipes from top Australian and international chefs as well as recipes from the top 20 contestants from series one.
Our Family Table is the first cookbook of series one winner Julie Goodwin.
The Official MasterChef Cookbook Volume 2 has recipes from the top 24 contestants of series two as well as recipes from the top chefs.
The Official Junior MasterChef Cookbook Volume 1 features recipes for children as well as some of the MasterClass recipes.
Two Asian Kitchens is the first cookbook of series two winner Adam Liaw.
MasterChef Magazine is a monthly publication.
Applications for contestants in MasterChef 2012 have already closed, but MasterChef Australia fans will be happy to know that MasterChef will continue beyond 2012.
