Starting Your Own Business

So your thinking of starting your own business, question is how and where do you start?

I guess the first thing to do is seriously consider if running your own business is the right decision for you and why running your own business is right for you.

Running your own business needs commitment and determination. You need to be a self-starter, take responsibility and be well organised.

So you think you've got what it takes, what next?

First thing you will need to do is get in touch with your local / state governments and find out what the legal requirements are for your type of business and what registrations need to be carried out.

Now that you have your business registered and your all set to go its time to start marketing. There is no need to spend heaps of money on marketing when your first starting up. Start with telling people about your business, your family, friends and relatives. They will be the first to want to help build your business and spread the word. Go through all your old contacts, telephone lists and business cards and start compiling a mailing list. Send these people an email and let them know all about your new business and ask them to help spread the word.

With just these two basic steps you can get your business off the ground. As your business begins to grow there are many more things you will need to consider.  You will need to create a business plan with both short term and long term goals. Also set up a marketing plan and look into different strategies you might like to try as your business grows.

Look into designing your business stationery, business cards and letterheads. Do a business management course and brush up on your time management skills.  What about inventory, inventory management and turnover!

There is a lot to consider so research, research and research. Find a mentor, someone who is doing what you want to do, pick their brains and learn as much as you can from them.

I wish you every success!!
