Fitness and Weight Loss
FITNESS
Some of the most popular fitness trends in 2011 have been Zumba and the p90x workout.
P90X
P90x or Power 90 Extreme is a home exercise system that helps you achieve overall fitness in ninety days. The p90x program is a twelve DVD program that runs for thirteen weeks, exercising six days a week. Most of the workouts are less than an hour, but three times a week there is an added abdominal workout which adds about fifteen minutes to your workout time. The exercises include a variety of strength training, cardio, yoga, plyometrics and stretching.
The p90x program also includes a nutrition plan. The nutrition plan consists of three different phases of protein and carbohydrate intake. Each phase lasts thirty days. Also included in the p90x program is a fitness guide, a calender, online support and supplement options.
The p90x program is designed to transform your body from regular to ripped in ninety days. The p90x program is said to be very intensive. If you are looking for something a little easier then try the Power 90 program.
ZUMBA
Zumba was created by a dancer and choreographer. Zumba exercises and music combine styles such as salsa, samba, hip-hop, Bollywood and belly dance. Just about every fitness centre now has Zumba instructors running Zumba classes. If you would rather Zumba in the privacy of your own home, there is a great selection of DVDs available. There is also a Zumba video game available for Xbox, play station and Wii. Zumba is an exercise in disguise.
WEIGHT LOSS
There is a massive amount of weight loss products and services on the market that promise to make weight loss quicker and easier. Everything from DVDs, lotions, potions and pills. Then there is the fitness centers, weight loss groups, supplements and food and drink products. Billions are spent every year on weight loss products and services every year.
WEIGHT WATCHERS
One of the most popular and successful weight loss groups is Weight Watchers. Weight Watchers began back in 1963 and now operates worldwide in approximately thirty different countries. Weight Watchers helps people form healthy, smarter eating habits, exercise more, and offers on going support.
Weight Watchers has two types of programs, a one on one in person program and an online program. The program basically works on a points system where foods are given certain points and you limit your food intake to the daily maximum quota allowed. Once your goal weight is achieved you then convert to a maintenance program.
You can access heaps of Weight Watchers recipes online, giving you detailed information on the points, calories, fat, protein etc. So even without joining the Weight Watchers program you can use their recipes to assist in your weight loss. You can even find point values for many fast food restaurant chains.
PILLS AND POTIONS
With hundreds of weight loss pills on the market that promise to make weight loss quicker and easier, it may be tempting to look for a quick fix solution to weight loss. A couple that appear to have hit the popularity list in 2011 are Zantrex and White Bean Extract or sometimes referred to as White Bean Kidney Extract. as with most diet pills there are side effects to consider as well as any existing medical conditions. It is strongly suggested that you consult a medical professional before taking any such pills.
Remember, the best, most natural way to approach weight loss is to adjust your eating habits and increase your physical activity. Doing these two things alone on a consistent basis will soon become a habit, help you achieve your ideal weight and then maintain it. It is in a nutshell a lifestyle choice.

Hair Removal
Hair removal is an important part of a beauty routine. There are many different products, services and methods for hair removal. Which works best and which hair removal product, method or service suits your needs?
Gone are the days when all we had for hair removal was the good old razor or tweezers. Here is a brief description of hair removal methods for you to consider.
Shaving - Shaving removes the tip of the hair only. It's cheap and you can do it yourself. Downside is razor burn, bump, nicks and ingrown hairs. It only lasts up to three days. Shaving in the bath or shower will result in a closer shave and shaving in the direction that the hair grows will help to avoid ingrown hairs.
Plucking - Plucking can last up to three weeks because you are removing the hair from the root. It is cheap and you can do it yourself. It can be time consuming and painful. Epilators can remove multiple hairs at once, but do not use an epilator for your eyebrows.
Creams - Using depilatory creams is a cheap, quick method of hair removal which you can do yourself. It lasts several days, but can get messy and smelly. If you have sensitive skin avoid using depilatory creams.
Waxing - Waxing can be done at home or at a salon. It last three to six weeks because the hair is removed from the root. It is painful and most people will experience redness and swelling after waxing. Regrowth is softer and less noticeable.
Electrolysis - Electrolysis is said to be permanent hair removal, but that is not always the case. It involves inserting a needle into the follicle which then sends electric currents to the hair root, killing it. It is expensive, takes lots of visits and is painful.
Laser Hair Removal - Laser hair removal can be permanent but most people need to go back every six months for maintenance. So, it is long lasting and a large area can be treated at the same time. It is expensive and you may experience redness and swelling. Avoid direct sunlight after treatments.
Threading - Threading involves removing hair with cotton thread. Lasts for two to four weeks and is best for those with extremely sensitive skin.
IPL - Intensed pulsed light works similar to laser hair removal. Permanent results but takes several visits and is expensive. Skin will feel like it is sunburned so it is important to avoid direct sunlight after treatments.
What works best where
Face - plucking, waxing, laser, electrolysis, IPL
Arms/Legs - waxing, epilating, shaving, depilatory creams
Bikini - waxing, epilating, shaving, laser, electrolysis, IPL
Basically it comes down to the choice of expensive, permanent options or temporary, inexpensive options. Hair removal is a personal choice, so do what's right for you.

Hair Care and Hairstyles
Hair Care
Everyone wants beautiful, shiny healthy hair and just like looking after you face begins with a good skincare routine, healthy hair also begins with a good hair care routine.
Before you begin a hair care routine, you'll need to know your hair type and its needs. How you care for your hair depends on the type of hair you have: normal, dry, oily, and also the condition of your hair and scalp: thinning hair, dandruff, itchy scalp, split ends, frizzy, flat, chemically treated etc.
There are three basic steps to a good hair care routine
Cleanse - The main purpose of a shampoo is to remove dirt and oil from your hair and scalp.
Moisturize - The main purpose of a conditioner is to moisturize your hair, leaving it soft and manageable.
Treatments - Treatments are designed to help mend/repair hair and scalp conditions such as hair loss, thinning hair, split ends, frizz etc
Hairstyles
Not everyone can wear the same hairstyle. The hairstyle you wear must flatter your face if its going to look good. Whether a hairstyle will look good on you or not depends on the shape of your face.
There are many types of hairstyles out there, but they will not look good if the hairstyle doesn't fit the shape of your face.
Different hairstyles for different face shapes.
Oval face - Almost any hairstyle will work, long or short, straight or curly. A layered hairstyle will also work well.
Long face - try a hairstyle that creates width, longer side bits or a cute bob. Curls will also work well. Don't grow your hair too long and don't do hairstyles that cut it too short
Round face - try hairstyles that add length. A layered hairstyle will work well. Don't do hairstyles that cut the hair any shorter than shoulder length.
Square face - short curly hairstyles and long layered hairstyles work well for you. Avoid short one length hairstyles.
Heart-shaped face- Long layered styles and fringes work well for you. Avoid hairstyles that take the hair away from the face.
Face First
If I was to say think face what would be the first thing that comes to mind? I bet it would be face book. Although face book is a fantastic social site, connecting people from all over the world, I am not going to write about face book, I am going to write about the other face, the front part of the head.
When we think of beauty we usually think of the face first, things like face masks, face creams, face cosmetics, face cleansers and so on.
One of the most important things you can do for your face is have a good skincare routine. Before you begin a skincare routine you'll need to know the skin type of your face. Is your face oily, normal, combination, dry, sensitive or sun damaged. This will determine what products you use for your face.
There are four basic steps to a good skincare routine for your face.
1. Cleanse - it is critical to use a face cleanser and cleanse your face twice daily.
2. Exfoliate - exfoliation prevents your face from looking dull, dry and flaky. Try different products such as face masks and face scrubs.
3.Moisturize - no matter if your face is oily, dry or normal you need to moisturize to keep your face looking healthy. Use a face cream that includes UV protection during the day and a different face cream at night.
4. Sunscreen - The number one cause of face wrinkles is sun damage. It is important to apply a sunscreen to your face every day, even in winter. As mentioned in step 3 try to find a good face cream that includes UV protection, that way you save yourself time and money doing two steps at once. Don't use the same face cream at night. Sunscreen should not be on your face 24/7
There is no shortage of face products on the market but for something different and not to mention a whole lot cheaper, try some of these everyday items from your kitchen and treat your face naturally.
Eggs - a great conditioner for your face. Use the whites if your face is normal or oily and the yolks if your face is dry.
Cucumber - for your eyes, dark circles, wrinkles and puffiness.
Milk - to nourish your face.
Avocado - full of natural oils, a great face moisturizer.
Nuts - great for making face scrubs.
Oats - also great for making face scrubs and improves the complexion of your face.
Honey - great for wrinkles and a natural face moisturizer.
Olive Oil - if your face is dry.
Yogurt - a natural face cleanser.
Vinegar - great for face blemishes.
Lemons - a natural face bleach and improves the complexion of your face.
These are just a few examples of what you can use on your face. The Internet is full of fantastic natural recipes for your face so have a browse and do your face a favour. There is also lots of books available full of natural face remedy recipes.
If you prefer to buy your face care products there's heaps of products and sites to browse through too.
One of the most popular sites in Australia is Strawberrynet. Strawberrynet Australia stocks a fantastic range of cosmetics, perfumes and face care products with all the popular brands such as Clinique, Dermalogica and Estee Lauder.
Have fun browsing and remember to FEED YOUR FACE.
